On the other hand, it has been documented that the mortality secondary to cardiovascular disease is 10-30 times higher in chronic kidney disease patients than in the general population. This situation has been attributed to a significant increase in the prevalence of several cardiovascular risk factors: arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, anemia, altered calcium-phosphorus metabolism, malnutrition, and sedentary life style among the main ones, in chronic kidney disease patients1-3.
